Proposal Planning

The moment of a marriage proposal is one neither of you will ever forget! It will be a story you describe, in detail, to your closest friends and family and one to tell your children about in years to come. Making it memorable has a lot to do with understanding the woman you're proposing to and planning a proposal that will delight her, taking into account the special kind of person she is.

The first thing you should consider when planning your proposal is how you are going to control the environment. When the time is right, you want to be in full control of what’s happening to insure the perfect moment. The last thing you want is to be half way through your proposal and the band starts playing and drowns you out, or to find out on a rainy night that the restaurant doesn’t have valet parking.

So once you decide how you’re going to propose take the time to scope out the location and think about how you’re going to control your environment.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Engagement ring
  • Special touches (guitar, flowers, etc.)

Step1
Talk to your significant other about marriage. It is important that both of you be ready to take this step in the relationship.

Step2
Plan your proposal at a good time. You should have about a year to plan for the wedding. Most couples don't like to be engaged for too long.

Step3
Pick out the wedding ring. Sometimes a girl wants to be involved in the process, and sometimes she does not. Remember to insure the ring.

Step4
Surprise your significant other with the proposal in a way they will enjoy. If he or she is shy, planning to pop the question at a public event is probably not a good idea.

Step5
Add special touches to your proposal to make it unique and special. You can sing your significant other a song, read a poem, decorate his or her apartment or otherwise make the evening romantic.

The Planning
If you’re going to pull off an elaborate proposal, make sure you cover all the details carefully. Book trips well in advance, research the perfect engagement ring, and make sure any necessary staff at the proposal site knows about your plans so they can assist if necessary. If you’re short on time or ideas, consider hiring a proposal planner. High-end hotels and resorts have begun staffing departments that are devoted to coming up with proposal ideas and then helping men making them happen. In many cases, grooms can brainstorm with Memorable Visions Event Planning to come up with an original plan

Creativity
Think about her interests, and any locations that may hold nostalgia for you both. If she’s an avid skier, consider whisking her away on a weekend ski trip and proposing on the slopes. If your first date was at a museum, see if you can rent an entire floor for an hour and propose to her there. Proposing while on a trip is a huge trend -- you can revisit the site of your first romantic getaway, or find a new place to make memories. Whatever you decide, keep in mind that the proposal is going to be talked about and sighed over for the next 40 years, so do whatever you can to make it original to you both.
